The Organic Salon Recycling Journey

Published on November 29, 2009 by Lorrene      Print

Several years back we looked into recycling at the mall where my salon is located. The leasing agent was not interested in adding to the cost of CAM and never pursued it. For quite a while, my staff and I have shared the resposibilty if taking home as much recycling as possible to do our part. We became very creative in condensing the recyclables. Wile making a stronger move to sustainability, we looked into this issue once more. Again, there is no response from the management company, so we asked for a quote for the salon alone. It starts at a mere $45 per month! We arranged to have TWO pick-ups for recycling per week. Our current regular garbage pick-up is THREE times per week. By adding the recycling, we now are going down to ONE garbage pick-up, TWO recycle pick-ups…. you guessed it! The cost comes out the same! The staff is so excited to have a commercial bin for recycling, nearly EVERYTHING is recycled! Are you doing your part to recycle? Lorrene

Living in California, I take for granted that recycling is just something that happens. Thank you for forging new ground in the Midwest through Salon Lorrene’s efforts to recycle!
