Organic Skin Care The inside scoop on what it is and why it works Historically, the words “natural” and “organic” haven’t really had much meaning in terms of standards of definition. A manufacturer could label a product “organic,” even if it contained just one organically farmed ingredient. Likewise, a product needed only contain 1% natural ingredients to earn the description “natural.” Natural means found in nature and not made in a lab, but does “natural” mean safe – or better for you? What about the poison ivy plant? It is “natural” but would you want to put it on your skin? I’ll let you decide! What Constitutes Organic? Organic is a “cradle to cradle” (vs. “cradle to grave”) philosophy that embraces renewable resources, and sustainable and ethical farming practices dedicated to protecting our ecosystem and enhancing environmental quality for future generations.
Organic Math: What’s What To be considered Organic, products must be formulated with at least 70% (equivalent to European standard of 10%) Certified Organic Ingredients, with a maximum permitted percentage of synthetic ingredients of 5%.
G.M. Collin’s BioOrganique Skin Care line contains between 74-93% certified organic ingredients.
For example, you may see a product label that claims the product is “made with organic green tea.” Would that make you convinced that the product fit your standard of truly organic? Probably not. Certifiably Reliable: What to Look For Alas, there are still loopholes in the laws regarding organic labeling (which can make it hard for the consumer to truly understand what they’re getting). Look for certifications from the three most respected certifying bodies:
- USDA – NOP (The U.S. National Organic Program led by the U.S.D.A.)
- QAI (Quality Assurance International)
- Ecocert
This fantastic product line boasts certification from these three agencies and is a member of the Organic Trade Association. The Bio Organique product line is created in the spirit and philosophy of uniting with nature and respecting our resources. From start to finish, production to packaging, Bio Organique truly inspires the respect of the organic world. Check out a few of Bio Organique’s powerhouse ingredients below:
BioOrganique: Fabulous organic meets performance ingredients:
- Sea Fennel: A powerful Retinol-like action with no irritation
- Beech Tree Bud Extract: This delivers an energizing effect by boosting mitochondria, the power-producing organisms in our skin cells.
- Barbados Cheery: nature’s most amazingly potent antioxidant, which neutralizes free radicals to prevent the onset of premature skin aginag.
- Tomato: Uniformly restores the skin’s barrier function and reduces transepidermal water loss. Tomato also provides important antioxidants for a more vibrant complexion.
- Rice Extract: The breakthrough, natural anti-aging discovery with ultra-effective properties that promote cell longevity.
(For those of you who may have read articles in beauty magazines recently about Sirtuins, rice extract stimulates Sirt-1)
